Cedar Waxwing by Konijntje Cedar Waxwing by Konijntje
This is a Cedar Waxwing - my favorite bird. During the winter, usually during January - March, they can be found where I live in North Texas. They love to eat the red and blue berries that are found on bushes in the winter...sometimes they eat so many that they get "drunk" and fall off their branches. Already, this morning, two have flown into my back windows. Because of their drunk state...you can sometimes get very close or even pick them up...as I did today. This picture, however, is from yesterday evening. I was less than a foot from him for some time before he finally flew away...

This is a beautiful photo! I love the close up and the detail of it, and the colors are captured wonderfully. I don't know much about photography, but this is amazing, and the fact that you are able to get so close to the birds is pretty cool. The ones around here fly away before you're within 25 feet. :XD:

Only for a few months. Typically, January - March. Maybe I should follow them for entire year...

Wonderful capture! How great to be that close! When I was little I lived in a house where the little birds would get drunk on the red berries and fly into the windows, so reading what you wrote brought back memories.

Wow, a waxwing. The last time I saw these fellows in my garden they were eating their belly full with berries of Viburnum opulus (Guelder Rose).

Very detailed 'shot', Melissa :)

Thanks! But I am disappointed in the crown...and also that I didn't have enough room on the memory card to shoot it in RAW...and was afraid if I went in AGAIN to get a different card he would be gone. :(
